Examples of Posture

Have a look at someone from the side and simply focus on their outline. You're getting a glimpse of the physical structure of that person's body: this is habitual posture, something most people are largely unaware of until there's a problem such as a herniated disc or other joint-related complaints. On the left of the screen you'll see a few examples of posture. Recognize anyone? Some people look a little like a question mark – belly hanging forward, rounded back and hips tilted forward so the backside sticks out (A). Some people look as if their chest has somehow caved in while their necks crane forward (B). Only rarely do we see people who are well aligned from their feet to the top of their heads – the front and back sides of their bodies appear to be equal in length (C). Oddly enough, most people likely have the feeling that they're usually "standing up straight".
